What is your review of Inkscape?
I use Inkscape to create graphic assets for my iOS programs plus I have done simple poster design in it. I am not an graphic artist yet I find it produces good results. I hit my artistic limits way before I hit Inkscape limits. I actually find it pretty easy to use once you work out a few simple tricks Use layers aggressively they are a good way of separating your work into final and scatch modes. I do a lot of tracing - import a picture you like into one layer then fit a shape using the beziers to another layer. Finish by hiding the original image layer. As mentioned elsewhere its format is SVG (thus XML). This makes it easy to programatically process. I have written programs for layer extraction and filter injection. The SVG also shows the differences well when doing a git checking diff. Rendering can be driven from themand line I use this to create PNG files are the various resolutions required by XCode for my apps. I find the SVG produced can be a bit ugly but most people wont care. For work that requiresplex 3D perspective I render a simple layout in Sketchup save it to a bitmap and load it as a background into Inkscape. Use the boolean operations to createplex shapes. These seem to work well and leave you with a path that can be edited node-by-node. Most of my assets are simply icons though I have some that have over a hundred layers and thousands of objects. Inkscape has only ever crashed for me a few times in the past few years. Being free and cross platform I find it useful to take between jobs. If I need a graphical program I can just download Inkscape or GIMP and Im good to go. There are some downsides Copy just doesn work. Duplicate objects instead. I have no idea how to copy nodes between files. The UI is pretty basic and can get confused sometimes with windows getting lost - sometimes you have to edit the startup file to get your windows back. In short I find it is useful tool and easy to pick up. It is worth the time to check it out.
Does semantic compression for SVG exist?
I agree one is definitely needed! Just saving an svg in Inkscape adds at least 5 lines of code.. It's atrocious... That said.. and more to your semantic point.. one thing I do which drastically reduces LOC filesize - is to reduceplexity or simplify paths - if appropriate to the nature of the graphic. This can reduce by half the size plexity of your That said I am unable to function amongst the visual and mental detritus that seems to inevitable junk up that pretty xml tree and - I do go in and delete all that BS meta-garbage that most SVG authoring tools put in - as most of it is truly unnecessary.. by hand. A tidy-like post (pre?) processor would be great for this... as xmltidy does not go there as they say.. And although not technically semantic there are options available (like the SVG save panel from Intaglio below... () .. which provides `svgz`pression. From wikipedia... SVG has beenpressed it may be referred to as an SVGZ s 137 582 n Update Also found this n n It ismon for SVG authoring tools to generate sub-optimal SVG markup that is difficult to post-process through custom applications scripting animation or simply using a editor to manipulate the SVG document or are low quality. There should be an SVG Tidy tool similar to HTML Tidy that attempts to improve the quality of SVG documents. n nApparently this project tries to deal with a lot of the issues I'd imagine you are talking about.. such as path to shape Namespace Cleanup redundant glyphs in fonts Proprietary Extensions Complex cleanup missing media in data s %xx escaped data s PNGpression etc. I do not know the status of the project.. but have a look..
Is a PNG file a photo?
A file with the PNG file extension is a Portable Network Graphics file. The format uses losslesspression and is generally considered the replacement to the GIF Network Graphics) format does however but has yet to gain the kind of popularity that GIF or PNG files have. Our services Such as clipping path shadow creation italic photo editting ordered-list e often used to store graphics on websites. Some operating systems like macOS and Ubuntu store screenshots in the PNG format by default. How to Open a PNG File The default Windows Photo Viewer program is oftentimes used to open PNG files because it's included as part of a standard Windows installation but there are many other ways to view one. All web browsers (like Chrome Firefox Internet Explorer etc.) will automatically view PNG files that you open from the internet which means you don't have to download every PNG file you want to look at online. You can also use the web browser to open PNG files from yourputer by using the Ctrl+O keyboardbination to browse for the file. Tip Most browsers also support drag-and-drop so you might be able to just drag the PNG file into the browser to open it. There are also several standalone file openers graphic tools and services that open PNG files. A few popular ones include XnView IrfanView FastStone Image Viewer Google Drive Eye of GNOME and gThumb. To edit PNG files the XnView program I just mentioned can be used as well as the Microsoft Windows included graphics program called Paint the popular GIMP utility and the very popular (and very not free) Adobe Photoshop. Considering the number of programs that open PNG files and that you very likely have at least two installed right now there's a very real chance that the one that's set to open them by default (i.e. when you double-click or double-tap on one) isn't the one you'd like to use. If you find that to be the case see my How to Change File Associations in Windows tutorial for detailed instructions on how to change that default PNG program. How to Convert a PNG File Probably every single viewers I've already mentioned. While they exist mainly as openers of various format. When to Use PNG Files PNG files are a great format to use but not necessarily in every situation. Sometimes a PNG can be way too large in size and not only use up unnecessary disk space or make it harder to email but can also drastically slow down a web page if you're using one there. So before you convert all of your quality benefits are good enough to sacrifice that space (or slow web page loading etc.). Since a PNG file doesn'tpress the is in the PNG format. JPEG files are useful when the as well as large areas of solid color. Screenshots and illustrations then are best in PNG format while real photos are best as JPEG You might also consider using the PNG format over JPEG when you're dealing with an over time. This isn't for PNG since it uses losslesspression.
